EFT Tapping Script for Fear of Change

Change – it’s a word that might evoke many different, and possibly conflicting emotions – fear, excitement, dread, desire, longing, anxiety, frustration. You might feel overwhelmed by the idea of change and it can cause you to react in one of two ways.

You might judge yourself for feeling uneasy around the change and decide that your fear must mean that you aren’t ready to handle the change you’re facing. You turn the challenging emotions you experience into a problem and let the discomfort dictate your actions and limit your options.

Or you might rely on willpower and pushing to move through your discomfort. This might work for a while, and you may even get results. Eventually, though, you can become exhausted or get distracted and give up.

However you react to change, whether its change that feels beyond your control or change that you consciously create, the fear of the unknown can keep you stuck in your old limiting responses. When that happens, you’re likely to sabotage even change that you desire and set out to create. That’s your subconscious at work trying to protect you from the intense discomfort you feel around the uncertainty of change.

The following script will help you release resistance around change. Your discomfort will become less of an obstacle as you move more easily through your emotions and rediscover your flow. Once you let go of what’s keeping you from moving forward, you’ll be able to create lasting and empowering change.

Before you begin tapping, find a quiet place where you can close your eyes and tune in to your thoughts. Take a deep breath and use the following script as a guide. Feel free to omit, add, or replace any statements that don’t resonate with you.

On a scale from 0-10, with 10 being the most intense, measure your fear of change. There is no right or wrong number here, only what you perceive. Let the first number that comes to mind be okay. Next to your fear, write down its intensity.

Start with the set up statement. You can use any or all of the following suggestions:

Karate Chop: Even though it’s said that anyone can change, I first have to believe that I can and I might be too ready to make excuses and carry on feeling unsatisfied, and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Karate Chop: Even though part of me wants to change, another part of me wants to avoid change because I’m used to the way things are and the unknown is scary, and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Karate Chop: Even though I can come up with reasons for keeping things the way they are because I don’t want to be taken out of my comfort zone, and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

After completing the tapping rounds, take a deep breath and tune into how you feel. Has the intensity changed? The goal is to get the fear to a 0 and clear any other negative emotions that may be in the way of you taking action. If something comes up for you while you’re tapping – a thought, a memory, etc – take the time to tap on that also. You may not understand the significance, but your subconscious mind does.

Repeat the tapping sequence as many times as necessary to get the fear to a 0 intensity rating.
